About Art Painting by Numbers

We are a paint by numbers manufacturer in Tianjin with our own factory, our own skilled workers and our own designers — building DIY painting kits for brands, retailers and online sellers around the world.

Who we are

Art Painting by Numbers is a manufacturer of paint by numbers kits based in Tianjin, China. We operate our own factory, employ our own production and design staff, and export directly to brands, retailers, distributors and online sellers across North America, Europe, the United Kingdom, Australia, the Middle East and East Asia. We are not a trading company, a sourcing agent or a marketplace storefront — the people who quote your order are the people who make it.

That distinction matters more than it sounds. When something goes wrong with a kit — a paint colour that does not match the proof, a canvas where the numbers print too faintly, a box that crushes in transit — a trader can only relay messages. We can walk to the line and fix it. It also means the price you are quoted has no intermediary margin inside it, and the lead time you are given is the lead time our own production plan says, not an estimate padded for someone else's uncertainty.

Founded in 2021, we started by making DIY painting kits for domestic Chinese retailers before turning the business towards export. Today the majority of our output ships overseas, and our factory covers 5,000 m² with dedicated lines for canvas printing, paint colour matching and filling, brush assembly, kitting and packaging. We produce approximately 250,000 sets/month sets per month.

Why we exist

Paint by numbers sits at an unusual intersection. It is a craft product, a mental-health product, a gift product and a home decoration product at the same time, and the people who buy it are rarely buying a canvas — they are buying three quiet evenings and a finished thing to hang on a wall. That is why the quality of small components matters so much. A brush that splays or paint that will not cover a dark outline does not just disappoint; it ends the experience halfway, and the customer blames themselves rather than the kit.

Our aim is to make kits that people finish, and to make it possible for a small brand to launch one without needing container-load capital. Those two goals shape the two decisions buyers notice most about us: a design service that costs nothing, and a minimum order of 100 sets.

Inside the factory

Five departments handle a kit from artwork to carton:

  • Design studio. Our professional designers convert artwork and photographs into numbered layouts, optimise colour counts for paintability, resize segments so a standard brush can fill them, and build packaging dielines. This service is free to customers placing production orders.
  • Canvas printing. High-resolution printing of numbered outlines on cotton, cotton-blend and linen, with registration checks against the approved proof and legibility checks on the smallest numbers. Canvases are rolled on tubes or stretched over kiln-dried pine frames.
  • Paint laboratory and filling. Acrylic paints are mixed to formula, matched against physical swatches or Pantone references under daylight-balanced lighting, then filled into numbered pots, foil-sealed and vacuum-strip packed. Formulations are water-based and non-toxic.
  • Brush assembly. High-elasticity nylon filament set into wood, lacquered or engraved handles, in flat, round and detail shapes, tested for tip recovery before packing.
  • Kitting, QC and packing. Hand kitting against the canvas colour key, four-stage inspection, AQL 2.5 final sampling, then retail packaging and export cartons built to Amazon or container specifications.

We also produce diamond painting, felt painting, punch-needle embroidery kits and general art and craft supplies on adjacent lines, which allows multi-category buyers to consolidate one shipment and save freight. Detailed capability, specifications and tolerances are set out on our OEM and private label page.

What we make

  • Framed kits with kiln-dried pine stretchers

  • Diamond painting, felt painting and punch-needle kits
  • Branded retail packaging, gift boxes and printed inserts

Standards and compliance

We treat compliance as a manufacturing specification, not a document produced after the fact. Which regime applies depends on your market and your age grading, so we ask for the destination country at quotation stage and build to it.

StandardMarketWhat it covers
EN71-1, EN71-2, EN71-3European UnionMechanical and physical properties, flammability, migration of heavy metals in toy materials
ASTM F963United StatesToy safety: physical, mechanical, flammability and chemical requirements
CPSIAUnited StatesLead and phthalate limits, tracking labels, children's product certificate
REACHEuropean UnionRegistration and restriction of chemicals in the paint formulation
CE / UKCA markingEU / UKConformity marking for regulated product categories
ISO 9001GlobalQuality management system
BSCI / social auditGlobalWorking conditions, hours and wages at the factory

Test reports are arranged through accredited third-party laboratories and issued in your company name where required, so you can present them to a retailer, a marketplace or a customs authority as your own documentation. Current certificates we hold: EN71-3, ASTM F963, SGS, BSCI, ISO 9001. Packaging warnings — poly-bag suffocation notices, age grading, choking-hazard statements and origin marking — are printed to the rules of your destination.

How we like to work with buyers

  • Quote fast, quote honestly. Firm pricing within 24 hours, itemised by component so you can see where the money goes and where you could save.
  • Sample before committing. We would rather you paint one of our kits than trust a photograph. Sample cost is refunded against your first production order.
  • Show the production. Photographs and video at kitting and packing, an AQL report before sealing, and third-party inspection welcomed rather than tolerated.
  • Keep your designs yours. NDA available before files move. Your artwork, packaging, colour recipes and customer data are never reused or resold.
  • Say no to infringing work. We do not reproduce copyrighted characters, brand logos, sports marks or celebrity likenesses without evidence of licence.

Our practical view is that a supplier relationship should survive the first problem. Every manufacturer eventually ships something imperfect; what separates suppliers is how quickly they acknowledge it and what they do next. Our policy is replacement, credit or refund within 14 days of report, at your choice — see the terms of service.

Where we ship

Our default Incoterm is FOB Tianjin. The port of Tianjin Xingang is roughly an hour's drive from the factory, which keeps inland haulage short and cheap compared with suppliers loading at southern ports — a small advantage per carton that compounds across a container. We also quote EXW, CIF, CFR and DDP, including DDP delivery into Amazon FBA warehouses with FNSKU labels applied. Shipments regularly go to the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.

Freight options, transit times and the volumetric maths that decides whether sea or air is cheaper are covered in FOB Tianjin explained.
